Business Days Calculator

Business days from a date, and between two dates

This calculator adds or subtracts business days from any date, or counts the business days between two dates. A business day is Monday to Friday excluding observed U.S. federal holidays. Today is Sunday, October 4, 2026. Five business days from today is Friday, October 9, 2026, ten is Monday, October 19, 2026, and thirty is Tuesday, November 17, 2026. There are 60 business days left in 2026 after today.

The rules it follows

The start day is never counted. If you start on a weekend or holiday, counting begins on the next business day. Federal holidays follow 5 U.S.C. 6103: a holiday on a Saturday is observed on the Friday before and one on a Sunday on the Monday after. Juneteenth is included from 2021. Banks, courts, states and employers may observe other days, so treat the result as a federal-calendar answer. Federal holidays still to come in 2026: Columbus Day (Mon, Oct 12); Veterans Day (Wed, Nov 11); Thanksgiving Day (Thu, Nov 26); Christmas Day (Fri, Dec 25).

Why it differs from a simple weekday count

Counting only weekdays overstates the number of working days in any period that contains a holiday. Over a full year the federal calendar removes 10 or 11 weekdays. This is why a 30-business-day period is usually 42 to 44 calendar days rather than 42 exactly, and why a contract that says business days needs a holiday-aware count.
